About the program
Who is eligible for New York Perks? The program is available to all New York magazine subscribers. If you have an active subscription, you can redeem your perk. A new perk lands each month, hand-picked by the New York team. We'll announce via email.
Will the program expand outside New York City? We're starting in New York City for now, but plan to expand to other areas in the future.
The September perk
New York Magazine subscribers can buy one movie ticket and get a second ticket free, plus one complimentary medium popcorn
Which movies are included?
The offer is valid for any regularly scheduled movie, subject to ticket availability.
Can I purchase my tickets online?
No. Tickets must be purchased in person at the box office to redeem the perk.
Can I buy tickets in advance?
Yes. Subscribers can purchase tickets in advance at the box office for a later date or showtime.
Can I use the perk at any Angelika theater in New York City?
Yes. The perk is valid at Village East, Cinema 123, and Angelika New York.
Can I use the perk if a showtime is sold out?
No. Tickets are subject to availability.
Do I need to buy anything besides the first movie ticket?
No. Purchasing one movie ticket is the only purchase required to receive the second ticket free and the complimentary medium popcorn.
How do I get my free popcorn?
Show your popcorn voucher at the concession stand to receive one complimentary medium popcorn. You should’ve received the voucher when purchasing your ticket.
Can I get more than one free popcorn?
No. The offer includes one complimentary medium popcorn per redemption.
Redeeming your perk
I just subscribed — when can I start redeeming? As soon as your subscription is active, you'll be able to redeem this month's perk via the Perks tab on your account page or nymag.com/perks.
How do I find the Perks tab on the New York app? Make sure you're logged in with the email tied to your active digital subscription and have the newest version of the app downloaded. Then go to the search tab, hit "your account," and then "perks." Alternatively, you can access it by typing nymag.com/perks into your browser.
Why do I need to wait until I'm at the theater to activate the pass? Once you hit "redeem," the pass becomes time-stamped. Please use the pass within one hour. As soon as you close it, the perk is marked as redeemed, and the pass can't be reopened. Wait until you're ready to show it to a box-office team member before tapping "Activate Perk."
Can I screenshot the perks pass and use it later? No. The pass is a live, time-stamped screen.
Eligibility and your subscription
What happens if I cancel my subscription before redeeming? You'll have access to your perk, and all subscriber benefits, through the end of your current billing period. After your subscription ends, the perk will no longer be available to redeem.
